24 Mar

This weekend the Underdog Railroad helped to save the sweetest GSD, a puppy named Josie who could not love people more.

Also along for a ride to safety, a cat named Gnocchi. Special thanks to Transport Coordinator Kathy Smola, and hand-off drivers Alison and Elisabeth.

Safe haven needed for 3 dogs rescued from certain death

18 Mar

Folks, I have now been trying for three weeks to find a safe haven up north (or anywhere) for these three dogs, and frankly I’m a little saddened that no one has stepped up.

These were Tennessee Death Row dogs. There’s not much point in pulling Death Row dogs if we can’t find a rescue, foster or no-kill shelter to take them.

Please let us know if you can help. We need a foster or a no-kill shelter or breed rescue group to step up. These dogs would make great pets for the right person.

They were saved from certain death at the high-kill Cleveland, TN Animal Control facility by a dedicated rescuer here in the Chattanooga area.

This Animal Control operation reportedly killed 6,000 dogs and cats last year.

Please forward to all on your list. Permission to cross post is granted.

These dogs are fully vetted and all are neutered.

If you can help, please email me back. I volunteer to drive the first leg.

For questions about the dogs, please email Loraine Munker at

Loraine, a friend of mine, has the dogs and can tell you more about them.

Pictures and descriptions:

Dog. No. 1

Angel is a 3 yr old German Shepherd, spayed, will be UTD on all shots, BUT HW +. She is 60 lbs.,  a super sweet girl, VERY smart …  She’s great with people & other dogs. She was the runt of the litter of a deceased breeder, and her current life was being outside on a chain. She has been owner released … and we need to find her the right and perfect home she deserves!

Dog No. 2

Cowboy is a 1 yr old bully mix, neutered, UTD on all, HW neg.

He’s shown NO signs of aggression. Great personality, very smart, learning basic commands and learning to walk on a leash. Needs a REAL home!!!

Dog No. 3

Lab mix

Black lab mix with white stockings. No name.

She is an outstanding girl. She is sweet and calm and housetrained and up to date on everything, spayed. She is a low HW positive and she is on Doxy and ivermectin.

Best regards,
Beth Cox

Free dog and cat vaccinations

15 Mar
Wellness Wednesdays!
A grant from the ASPCA has made it possible for McKamey Animal Center in Chattanooga to offer low cost vaccinations for a limited time.  Wellness Wednesdays will be held at McKamey in an attempt to improve the “community immunity” of our dog and cat population.  Only on Wednesdays between 10am and 5pm these vaccination clinics are available to the public.  Rabies vaccinations are not just a benefit to your pet they help protect the whole community from this deadly disease!  Rabies exists in our wild animal population in Tennessee.  Your unvaccinated pet may have a close encounter with a skunk, bat or racoon without your knowledge and become infected.  There is no treatment for Rabies once clinical signs are being exhibited.  Prevention is the key to our community safety!!

Visit your veterinary hospital or come and participate in Wellness Wednesdays to insure your pet is vaccinated and protected.  It’s your pet, it’s your responsibility.  Be responsible Chattanooga care for your pet today.
