Chance

This little guy is oh-so-cute, but is in big doo-doo.  Chance gets stressed out from too much outside stimuli and does not do well in crowds, especially as people move towards him.  He protects himself by snapping.  He did not do well at the adoption event.  He is fine one-on-one and with one dog or cat.  My own dog came from an abusive situation and showed this behavior and almost got PTS at the shelter.  With patience and understanding, he is fine (but we still control his environment so “old tapes” don’t emerge).  I have fostered fear-biters and with training and trust, they are really devoted companions.

To the point:  Do you know anyone or any rescue group that might take a chance on Chance?  It would be a shame if he is PTS without having the opportunity to prove he can be a good dog under the right circumstances.  He is UTD, neutered and microchipped.  There is also some transport help out of Atlanta, GA and maybe you know others that can drive a leg.  Thank you and please crosspost so his plight ends up in the perfect email inbox to save him.

Please cross post widely!
Please contact nek2@cdc.gov if you can foster/rescue this little guy. He’s young and fun, likely just wants a predictable environment. :-/ Sandra

Last Sat we rescued this little guy – actually he is a chunkadunk – from Augusta (owner release) and it turns out he is more aggressive than we originally hoped for. I call him Chance (as in last). He was quarantined for snapping at someone and barely broke the skin but supposedly he was super stressed and that was an aberration. Then he was okay in a foster home for a few weeks before he came to us. But at Pet Smart, of course he was again stressed at being just taken, he lunged at two people and although we told folks to just leave him alone for now, a Pet Smart trainer got snapped at and her skin was barely broken as well! Fortunately she didn’t complain but needless to say, we can’t take him to Pet Smart since he is a liability. I have him now isolated at my house because I have two tiny ones who could potentially be hurt and can’t chance it. He seems fine with me and cats, has some high energy chasing balls, and I have taken him on walks so he does have potential. He is young, UTD, neutered and even microchipped. So I have a dilemma. I’ve just started putting feelers out starting with you to see if you know of someone/another rescue up to this kind of challenge and would take him. I’d be willing to travel, too. I want to explore all options before making that tough decision so any help/suggestions you can share would be most appreciated.
Thanks!
Nancy
