Subject: Seniors needing rescue help at East Ridge, TN

We have two senior lab mixes at the shelter, both are very sweet dogs but no one is showing any interest in them. Both have problems walking and could have arthritis. Please pass their plea to all senior dog rescues that may be able to help them.
They are needing rescue help now, please help us help them.
Thanks,

Chocolate lab puppy wanted

26 Sep

Subject: a welcome change

For once, I know of someone wanting a dog instead of someone wanting to give one up! A long time customer of mine says her neighbor, who will be a good home, wants a female chocolate Lab pup. She is very open to the aspect of rescue; but does want only this particular dog. I will pass any info to my customer and let the folks get in touch with the rescue person. Thanks

Me and Mike – this weekend’s rescue

24 Sep

This weekend we helped to get Mike the Dog to safety on a transport north from Athens, GA to a no-kill shelter in Illinois.

Mike,  a German shepherd mix,  was a perfect gentleman and he didn’t even mind sharing the rescue ride with a lovely Maine Coon cat, who had her own crate, of course. We hope you saved some animals this weekend, too.

New rescue runs will be posted soon for next weekend. Please drive if you can. — Beth

Purebred Peke needs saving

23 Sep
Chelica has come to my center numerous times asking me to take dogs. Some have been her pets. Some are her mother’s. Some have been strays. Her latest need is for a Pekingnese that belongs to her mother. Her mother could not take care of the dog. She found it a home. The dog was returned for snapping at a child. She is fine with adults. Chelica called me today desperate to place the pekingnese because she will not get along with another dog in the home since returning. I do not have isolation space right now and this dog has never been to the vet.  The dog is 1.5 yrs old. She is solid white. They supposedly paid $400 for her and she is purebred, but I have not met the dog and do not have a pic.
If you can help, please call Chelica at 779-4691

Take a chance on Chance

22 Sep

Can someone help?

Chance

This little guy is oh-so-cute, but is in big doo-doo.  Chance gets stressed out from too much outside stimuli and does not do well in crowds, especially as people move towards him.  He protects himself by snapping.  He did not do well at the adoption event.  He is fine one-on-one and with one dog or cat.  My own dog came from an abusive situation and showed this behavior and almost got PTS at the shelter.  With patience and understanding, he is fine (but we still control his environment so “old tapes” don’t emerge).  I have fostered fear-biters and with training and trust, they are really devoted companions.

To the point:  Do you know anyone or any rescue group that might take a chance on Chance?  It would be a shame if he is PTS without having the opportunity to prove he can be a good dog under the right circumstances.  He is UTD, neutered and microchipped.  There is also some transport help out of Atlanta, GA and maybe you know others that can drive a leg.  Thank you and please crosspost so his plight ends up in the perfect email inbox to save him.

Please cross post widely!
Please contact nek2@cdc.gov if you can foster/rescue this little guy. He’s young and fun, likely just wants a predictable environment. :-/ Sandra

Last Sat we rescued this little guy – actually he is a chunkadunk – from Augusta (owner release) and it turns out he is more aggressive than we originally hoped for. I call him Chance (as in last). He was quarantined for snapping at someone and barely broke the skin but supposedly he was super stressed and that was an aberration. Then he was okay in a foster home for a few weeks before he came to us. But at Pet Smart, of course he was again stressed at being just taken, he lunged at two people and although we told folks to just leave him alone for now, a Pet Smart trainer got snapped at and her skin was barely broken as well! Fortunately she didn’t complain but needless to say, we can’t take him to Pet Smart since he is a liability. I have him now isolated at my house because I have two tiny ones who could potentially be hurt and can’t chance it. He seems fine with me and cats, has some high energy chasing balls, and I have taken him on walks so he does have potential. He is young, UTD, neutered and even microchipped. So I have a dilemma. I’ve just started putting feelers out starting with you to see if you know of someone/another rescue up to this kind of challenge and would take him. I’d be willing to travel, too. I want to explore all options before making that tough decision so any help/suggestions you can share would be most appreciated.
Thanks!

Lab mix puppy
About 10 to 12 weeks so sweet!
Border Collie
This big beautiful boy would not stand still. He was spinning and smiling and wiggling! Owner surrender. They have him as  8 years. I seriously doubt it! He weighs about 60 lbs and I think he is neutered. Great dog

These dogs, a 3 year old cocker female and a young, under a year male beagle mix with a bandage on foot ( no idea what’s under it and they wouldn’t check it) are super sweet. The beagle is shaking.
